From Arab News:
JEDDAH: Police in Jeddah have arrested 6,000 overstayers in the past six months in campaigns against crime, said Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police.
Al-Juaid said 1,892 crimes were solved during this period. These crimes related to alcohol, drugs, robbery and fraud.
“Regular raids by security forces are aimed at curbing crime. We urge citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the security forces for their own protection,” said Al-Juaid.
Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed directed all concerned organizations to intensify efforts in combating crime. “Criminal activities have serious psychological, social and economic implications … they hinder development,” he said.
You can’t help but wonder how many of these “crimes” were just cases of people having a glass of beer, for which the punishment is lashes.
Here’s the most recent horrendous crime that the Saudi Arabian police have thankfully protected its citizens from: Saudis order 40 lashes for elderly woman for mingling
